Top 5 Spots in the Adelaide Hills

May 18, 2016  |   Category: General

There’s no better time than Autumn to experience all the Adelaide Hills have to offer, so jump in the car for an easy 40 minute drive away from the coast into the Hills and enjoy our top five suggestions for a great day out.

  1. Start your day by stretching your legs with a stroll around the beautiful Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens. There’s no better time of year than Autumn to enjoy this beautiful spot.
  2. Five minutes’ drive will take you to the pretty little town of Stirling - and by now it’s probably time for breakfast or at least a caffeine fix! We suggest the Organic Market and Cafe, serving delicious, nourishing food and great coffee to set you up for the day. What’s more, the gorgeous store is a great place to stock up on local produce to take back to Seawall Apartments for an easy and delicious dinner.
  3. Hahndorf - a State listed Heritage town which retains its strong German heritage - is just ten minutes down the road. Take a stroll taking in the architecture and unique atmosphere, explore the many shops, take in some art or even treat the kids to a visit to the Hahndorf Farm Barn.

Whilst you could spend an entire day (or more!) exploring the many Adelaide Hills wineries, we suggest two of the newest cellar doors right in the centre of Hahndorf. Start at the warm and welcoming Scott & La Prova cellar door - and see for yourself why this relative newcomer won the Chanticleer Cup for Best Cellar Door in the Adelaide Hills in 2014! The stylish cellar door is home to classic Hills wines such as shiraz and chardonnay, plus many Italian alternative grape varities.

The next destination for wine lovers is just a short stroll across the street at Somerled. Enjoy an intimate experience as you settle in to taste a glass or two and learn about the wines direct from a member of the winemaker’s family, all whilst watching the world go by from the great vantage spot on the main street of Hahndorf.

4) By this time you’ll probably be hungry! In our opinion there’s no better place for lunch than a cheese platter at Udder Delights. Enjoy a complimentary cheese tasting, browse the goodies for sale then sit back and relax with some delicious local produce for lunch.

5) Finish your day with a refreshing ale or local wine at one of the many inviting Hills pubs and hotels. Our top pick is the Stirling Hotel, a slick contemporary hotel that still retains a unique atmosphere and is a favourite with the locals.
